EDL renews Browns Plains agreement with Logan City Council

2 September 2026, Queensland, Australia: EDL has renewed its landfill gas agreement at the Browns Plains Landfill Gas Power Station in Queensland, extending a partnership with Logan City Council that has been turning everyday waste into renewable energy for almost 30 years. The extension will ensure that energy continues to help power local homes and businesses for years to come.

The new agreement runs to 2042, with options to extend.

Greg Breadsell, EDL’s General Manager Clean Energy, said, “We are pleased to extend our partnership with Logan City Council and continue operations at Browns Plains – a strong example of cleaner energy goals in action. For almost thirty years, we’ve successfully converted landfill waste gas into reliable, renewable energy that goes directly into the grid for local power supply.”

We look forward to continuing to work with the team at Logan City Council and growing together to expand our energy production capacity in future,” Greg added.

This landfill site, operated by Logan City Council, currently receives around 170,000 tonnes of waste every year. Commissioned in 1997, EDL’s Browns Plains Landfill Gas Power Station captures methane, produced as organic matter decomposes in the landfill, and uses it to fuel the power station. This process generates around 15,000 megawatt hours of electricity a year, enough to power roughly 2,000 homes, while helping to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions equivalent to taking over 24,000 cars off the road each year.
